Shauhin Talesh

Professor of Law, Sociology, and Criminology, Law & Society at the University of California, Irvine

Shauhin Talesh is Professor of Law, Sociology, and Criminology, Law & Society at the University of California, Irvine. He also directs UCI’s Law and Graduate Studies program.  Talesh holds a PhD in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from UC Berkeley and a JD and LL.M in Insurance from the University of Connecticut.  His research interests include the empirical study of law and business organizations, dispute resolution, consumer protection, insurance, and the relationship between law and social inequality. Talesh’s research on organizational responses to law and compliance and its impact on law and social change draws from organizational sociology and political science studies of American politics and American political development. Talesh’s research has won multiple awards in Sociology, Political Science and Law & Society. Talesh was elected chair of the Sociology of Law Section of the American Sociological Association in 2020-21, elected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in 2022, and served on numerous committees for the Law and Society Association, including most recently co-chairing the Graduate Student and Early Career Workshop in 2022.
