2012 Stan Wheeler Mentorship Award
The Stan Wheeler Mentorship award was created in 2008, to honor the memory of Stanton Wheeler, whose mentorship was so important to so many members of the Association. It will be awarded each year to a member of the law and society community who is regarded by his or her peers and students as an outstanding mentor for graduate, professional or undergraduate students who are working on issues of law and society. The award will consist of a plaque or certificate, honoring the recipient; and a modest cash award. The recipient of this award may use the money to cover his or her own expenses of attending the annual meeting; or, if he or she wishes, to be used for some mentorship activity related to membership in the Law and Society Association, such as, helping fund a student or students' attendance at an annual meeting, purchasing memberships for one or more students or former students, or helping fund a student's research activities.
The 2012 prize will be presented during the 2012 International Conference on Law and Society, to be held June 5-8 in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
The committee to select the year 2012 recipient of the award includes Robert A. Kagan, chair (University of California, Berkeley), Jonathan Klaaren (University of the Witwatersrand), Matthew Light (University of Toronto), Mona Lynch (University of California, Irvine) and Carla Shedd (Columbia University).
Please send nomination in the form of (1) a letter of support, including the candidate’s vita (if possible), and (2) a nomination file that includes at least a few letters of support from former students, past and current colleagues, collaborators, and others who have experience of the nominee’s capacity as a mentor. Nominations should be made by February 17, 2012 by email to Robert A. Kagan rak@berkeley.edu.
