Sessions 3300 and 3400 (combined) Labor History Bus and Walking Tour

 

The Labor History Bus Tour will include many sites from Pittsburgh’s long history of labor organizing and labor conflict.  Some sites will be viewed on foot; others will be viewed from the bus and described by our guide, Professor Charles McCollester, President of the Pennsylvania Labor History Association.  Sites will include, among others, the 1892 Homestead battle site and pump house (as well as sites of other conflicts with Mellon, Frick, and Carnegie), the 1977 rail yard burning and battle with Philadelphia militia, the Northside Carnegie Library anti-communist riot, the McKees Rocks strike, the south side ethnic steel community and the steel community in Braddock and Turtle Creek Valley. The tour will be about three hours and return to the hotel as close to 5PM as possible. There is a charge of $12.00 to cover bus rental (ticket can be purchased as part of meeting registration).
