LSA GRADUATE STUDENT WORKSHOP 2008
The Law and Society Association is pleased to announce the twenty-first Graduate Student Workshop, Justice, to be held May 27–28, 2008 immediately preceding the 2008 Joint Annual Meetings of the Law and Society Association and the Canadian Law and Society Association in Montreal, Canada. We invite applications from graduate students in any field and advanced law students whose scholarly interests include sociolegal studies.
The program will consist of panel presentations, seminar sessions, and informal discussions over shared meals to provide a forum for networking with faculty who write in the field, and to promote dialogue among graduate students and faculty participants about students’ individual research projects.
This year’s planning committee includes: Patty Ewick (Clark University), Jonathan Goldberg-Hiller (University of Hawaii), Katherina Heyer (University of Hawaii), Ronit Dinoviter (University of Toronto), Wes Pue (University of British Columbia) and Valerie Hans (Cornell University).
About 40 students will be selected to participate in the Workshop, with the Law and Society Association offering a reimbursement to help offset travel costs (receipts required) of up to $200 for students within North America, or $400 for students outside North America.
Applications must be received by February 8, 2008.
For graduate students residing outside of North America, there is a new "early action" option: those who apply by January 10, 2008 will be notified in early February whether they have been admitted to the workshop or, alternatively, whether a decision on their application has been deferred until the February 8 applications have been received.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a letter of not more than three pages describing their dissertation or other research interests, their current status in graduate school, and how they might benefit from attending the Workshop.
Applications must be submitted electronically in MS Word or .rtf file to:
GSW2008@lawandsociety.org Subject line: APPLY GW
The applicant’s curriculum vitae and letter should be combined in a single file named for the applicant as follows: “Lastname_Firstname_GW”
If you have questions about the submission format please get in touch with Lissa Ganter, ganter@lawandsociety.org tel. 413-545-4617.
